Alternative therapy refers to forms of therapy that are not based on conventional interventions (such as medication or talking therapy/psychotherapy). Alternative therapies can be used alone or alongside conventional therapy methods.
In-patient psychiatric or rehabilitation services involve the hospitalization of a person suffering from or recovering from mental illness, disability or substance abuse.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who evaluates and studies behaviour and mental processes and treats mental illnesses with medication. A psychiatrist may be trained in psychotherapy and may also offer talking therapy/alternative therapies, with or without medication.
Rehabilitation refers to in-patient or out-patient services for individuals suffering from addiction, or for individuals with disabilities, or for patients recovering during or after psychiatric hospitalization. Rehabilitation includes occupational therapy, vocational training, and any other therapies, training or services that help restore an individual's daily living and functional skills.
Therapy refers to the process of discussing and solving problems with a counsellor, psychologist or therapist. Psychotherapy is one type of talking therapy. Some other types of talking therapy are family therapy, couples counseling, cognitive behaviour therapy and bereavement counseling. Therapy can be conducted by licensed therapists, counsellors, psychologists and psychiatrists.
