Fostering Compassionate Practice: A Step Towards Suicide Decriminalization Implementation

On 18th December 2024, Taskeen had the privilege of contributing to a two-day Specialized Training Course on “Police Ethics & Professional Behavior,” conducted by the Police School of Investigations, Garden Karachi, in compliance with the directives of the Additional IGP Karachi. The training was organized for 48 newly promoted Sub-Inspectors (6th Group).

Ms. Duaa Nusrat, Manager of Operations at Taskeen, led a compelling awareness session on the repeal of Section 325 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The session aimed to sensitize police officers to the decriminalization of suicide in Pakistan and highlight the importance of addressing mental health challenges with empathy and understanding.

During her session, Ms. Nusrat discussed the critical role of police as first responders and urged them to adopt an empathetic and supportive approach toward survivors of suicide, and individuals experiencing suicidal ideation.

The event was honored by the presence of Lt. Col. (Retd.) Rizwan Ahmed as the Chief Guest and Insp. Ziaullah (I/C PSIG Karachi) as the trainer.

This initiative reflects Taskeen’s unwavering commitment to advancing the effective implementation of suicide decriminalization laws in Pakistan and fostering a compassionate approach to mental health challenges.
