Whenever we hear the word depression everybody thinks that it is just a normal thing and general feeling down. To explain a mental illness everybody says that they are in depression. But mental illnesses are of different types and clinical depression is one of them.
Whenever someone who has clinical depression express his illness to other people then the general reaction is “Its nothing you are young, enjoy your life, we have more issues then you, keep praying it is happening because you are not close to God etc.” But this is not the case. Generally when we feel down and do not feel like doing anything due to some factors like failure in exam, fight with a friend, tension or anxiety about certain expects of life, then this is normal depression and it does not need any medication. It can go away with time or if you come with terms with the situation then you can become better.
“What is depression like? It’s like drowning, except everyone around you is breathing.”
But clinical depression is a serious illness. Only the person who has gone through it can understand the pain behind it. You cannot relate to the person with clinical depression if you have not gone through it. Clinical depression is a severe, persistent and chronic disease. Person needs
medication for this type of depression. It can be caused by various factors including loss of family member, traumatic event, low self-esteem, loneliness, heartbreak and the list goes on. To treat clinical depression, medication and counseling is required.
Clinical depression can effect life of a person in very negative way. It can even be genetic. Clinical depression is caused due to the imbalance of chemicals in brain. Anyone can get clinical depression if triggers are present and it is not a person’s fault. Even most pious, most rich, most beautiful and most intelligent person can get it.
Mental illness is considered a taboo in our country but mental illness is just like other body illness. We need to raise awareness related to it so that no person suffer in silence and no feel alone.
