Intrusive thoughts, a literal demon and OCD

Have you ever had thoughts which you do not want to have? Do some inappropriate images or sentences get stuck in your head ? It is completely ok if that happens because these thoughts are called intrusive thought. They are against the will of a person and you cannot control these thoughts. These thoughts are not from you but automatic. If you think that I do not want this thought then you actually are thinking about it.  It is ok to have bad thoughts and please do not take guilt about them because almost everyone has them. These thoughts can be about Religion, About People, you love, or Sexual.

 

Please do not take guilt about them because the more you will take the guilt the more the thought intensity and potential will increase. The more you will hate having a thought the more thought will come into your mind. Some people do not know about intrusive thoughts. When they have these type of thoughts then they start feeling guilt and ashamed of their self. They start thinking that they are a bad person but infect it is the opposite.  They are actually a  really good person and nice people and they do not want these thoughts but it is hard for them to ignore these thoughts. Due to quilt, tension, and low self-esteem, the potential of these thoughts increase and they develop a disorder known as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Pure O.

In OCD person has repetitive inappropriate and bad thoughts against the will and believes of a person. For example, if a person loves his parents then he might have thought that he might harm her. He is aware that he loves his parents and will never harm her but the images and whispers keep coming to his head and because of them he starts feeling guilt, tension and he will avoid meeting his mother due to which he will develop depression and anxiety.

A person with OCD can have extreme thoughts.

Some thoughts do not even make sense. But that person in actual will NEVER act on the thought because he is in fact a good person and the only reason he has these thoughts are because he took guilt on having a thought which he did not want to have or control. There are three most common themes of OCD

  • ·      Religious thoughts
  • ·      Killing thoughts
  • ·      Sexual thoughts

In religious thoughts person who is so pious may starts having thought that God does not exist or even inappropriate images associated with religion. In sexual OCD a person can have sexual intrusive thought about a person that he would never want to have thought about. The thoughts do not have limit and they can go as far as they can if you keep taking guilt. The thoughts can be images, inappropriate sentences or even false feelings. To have OCD it literally feels like to be possessed by a demon and the saddest thing about this disease is that person looks normal. He functions normally. Everybody thinks that he is Happy but inside he feels broken. He feels that every part of his life is broken. He feels worthless despite doing the Good and Meaningful things.

 

Now what is the solution of these thoughts? To fight with OCD is like a battle. If you have intrusive thoughts then do the following things:

  • First do not pay attention to the thoughts.
  • If you feel guilt then tell yourself that it is not from me and it does not mean anything about me and then get busy.
  • Never and I mean it never dwell on the thought and never take guilt and never think about how you can remove these thought because that is the key ingredient for the development of OCD.
  • If thought does not go away even after 1-2 hours then write down that thought.
  • If thoughts still persist more then three days then please for the love of God visit a psychiatrist or a psychologist.

 

If you have OCD then I am really sorry. But you need to realize and tell yourself that you are a good person. You are worth it. These thoughts will not go away but you have to learn to live with them that is the only way. Once you learn to live with them and accept them ( not think they are true just that mindfulness that yes they are present). I know it is really hard but I am going through this too. We are like soldiers who are fighting their own battle. We cannot let Devil win. We are talented, nice and Intelligent people and we will NEVER do anything wrong never. So please do not let these thoughts ruin your life. Do not avoid the things you love to do due to fear of thoughts. Do not avoid people you love because of fear of thoughts. Once you learn to live with thoughts life will become easy and it is a gradual process. It may take years to solve but it will be solved. Fight with it by ignoring thought, by not taking guilt, and by doing things you love. Do not think about suicide because this battle is really hard but life is worth it. When you will learn to live with it you will become a happier, braver, and nicer person. You are not alone in this and someday you will spread your wings just like a beautiful butterfly. You are still a beautiful butterfly you are possessed by a demon and you do not know that. Even with these thoughts you are a butterfly but you do not feel it but Inshallah you will feel it someday. Keep holding on.
